Anne of Green Gables
About the Book

First published in 1908 by L.C. Page Co.
L. M. Montgomery’s debut novel, Anne of Green Gables is the story of an orphan girl sent by mistake to an elderly couple adopting a boy. Despite - or perhaps because of - her flame-red hair, her unconventional imagination, and her penchant for getting into scrapes, Anne wins the heart of Avonlea as well as the hearts of readers worldwide.
Although ostensibly written for “girls in their teens”[1], Anne of Green Gables was an instant success with readers of all age groups. Her popularity prompted the author to write a total of 8 novels tracing the heroine’s adoption to her college experience, marriage and children, as well as 3 short story collections dealing with characters in Anne’s world.
